The Day After “Firefox Download Day”
2008.06.20So news is still coming-in that up to 10 million people downloaded FireFox 3 over the last 48 hours. I was one of the lucky ones still up at 2:16am CST the night before. Thankfully, I remembered! I downloaded with relative ease. Erick Schonfeld (of TechCrunch) reporting on the story was not so lucky. Perhaps that explains his inconvenienced tone.
After upgrading the WebDeveloper toolbar and the FireBug Developer extension, I was up to speed and not looking back! I just have to prioritize the Shift+Cmd+C for FireBug to inspect elements in my daily work. This has to be the best browser upgrade yet! FireFox 2 was so damned slow, so I’m really not missing it. Plus, the super search from your address bar is DOPE.
After using if for a few days on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, it’s awesome. Way more responsive, short cuts are like butter and the search is like mind reading. Now, I’m going to get my bookmarks organized. Anyone have ideas for that?
But wait! There’s more good news! Adam writes us from Korea, where he lives with his expectant wife in Ulsan:
Firefox 3 for Mac solved a problem we were having with a certain Korean website! The ActiveX plugin, only usable with IE, was forcing us to always use Parallels and Windows XP every time RY wanted to use the internet, i.e. check email (and upload new pictures), and shop online from Korea sites.
Firefox 3 is allowing us to not only use the Windows XP version without the ActiveX plug-ins, but also the Mac OS X version without the ActiveX plug-ins!!! Hallelujah!
Just thought I’d share that with you.
The next thing will be to test if we can shop online from Korean sites with the Mac version. If that works I’ll be so DAMN HAPPY! If it doesn’t, I’m still happy about Firefox allowing better international Internet use.
KICK ASS. What a testament to poor Korean site design. Oh well, they have their own version of the internets over there, anyway.
Anyway, get FireFox 3. It’s more than worth it!
