Salt Lake City
2006.05.01We just returned from a family vacation to the Land of Zion.
We flew out of Omaha. The more I think about it, the more I love that little terminal. The rows of leather and steel seating, the nod towards the Plains style with upturned sconces, exposed rafters and rythmic proportions. The large central space with strong verticals. But then again, that could describe half the nation’s airports.
2.33 hours later we touched down in SLC and met the family. Amy’s sister, Sara, arrived from Chicago an hour later. And we all rode to Olive Garden for take out.
The next day began reading Alan Moore’s The Watchmen. That night, we got to have dinner with Howie’s old lawschool buddies and their families. Many of whom are near and dear to the Lemckes, and I could see why. After dinner, Amy & I were highly complimented, thoroughly warned of marriage, and heard war stories every bit as likely as Catch-22. We were hailed in at least two of thier toasts by the time they called it a night. It was truly amazing to witness such a friendship between a remarkable group of men.
The next day we got some groceries, picked up the party trays from the Italian importer Grenato’s, went to Mass, and then back home to put the beer on ice. The guests soon began to file downstairs to the bar and mingling began. Then, some choristers materialized and began a medly, barbershop quartet style. The annual “Shot to Hell” party was in full swing.
All of these were taken with the built-in camera on the Samsung a900 phone. We had a ton of fun
